Call it pink, salmon, pale red or rosy, the Bird in Hand Pinot Rosé is certainly a light and lively rosé colour in the glass and wears its strawberry cloak from the nose right through to a semi-dry finish.
Hailing from the cool Adelaide Hills vineyards of Bird in Hand, the Pinot Noir grapes were given only eight to 10 hours of skin contact before being fermented in stainless steel tanks to ensure purity, freshness and a crispness throughout. The light ruby colour of the wine hints at the strawberry, watermelon and cherry flavours that charm and embrace the palate yet linger at the back palate, before gentle natural acids lead to a zippy, though nicely balanced conclusion. There’s a tad more sweetness than we often see in drier examples of the style, but despite the jubiness in the mouth, there’s a tightness at the back end which ensures credibility. It’s a wine that ticks all the boxes yet sells at less than $20 a bottle! Perfect for Sunday lunch or a Thai chilli duck salad.
