The name evokes silhouettes in the night sky, a vision harking back to WWII and the Lancasters of Bomber Command flown by Travis’ grandfather, Jack O’Brien. This wine immortalises the servicemen and women of Australia and is a tribute to their courage, dedication and strength of character.
Hand-picked from the best rows of Mayfield’s premium north-facing blocks, no expense was spared in crafting this premium cool climate Chardonnay, heralding an exceptional wine that would honour the legacy it represents, for many years to come.
Tasting notes
Silhouettes shows characters of white peach and nectarine on the nose, before toasted cashews, biscuit and stone fruit emerge through the middle. Use of the finest Seguin Moreau Burgundy puncheons ensures that the oak beautifully balances the vibrant fruit with the mouth feel of an expressive secondary ferment. The elegance of the wine is underscored by its creamy texture, stylish balance and a lingering lemon-curd conclusion. Energetic and racy in its youth, with careful cellaring, it should only improve over the next 5 years or more.
