Peter Lehmann, Art Series Shiraz 2009 Review

Big, bold Shiraz is synonymous with the Barossa Valley and it’s difficult to think of a more prominent winemaker from the region than Peter Lehmann.

The Stonewell Shiraz may be his flagship, but as the style goes, his second-stringers do much more than make up the numbers. The latest release of the Peter Lehmann Art Series Shiraz 2009, is typically Barossa with its rich, mouth-filling fruit and voluptuous chocolate infusion. But this year, the oak exposure and some firm tannins, seem to hold it much tighter than previous vintages as the fruit, while plummy, ripe and generous, is unable to escape at the back of the palate and finishes cleanly, with a dusting of fine tannins.

At around $20.00 a bottle, it’s fair value and more than worthy of an appearance at your next family barbeque.
