Greystone, Waipara Pinot Noir 2008 Review

You might call me a “Pinot-phile”, but I can never get enough of those really good cool climate Pinots that present an aromatic nose, fragrant berries and which finish just a touch dry. The Kiwis have always done Pinot well and the Greystone Waipara Pinot Noir 2008 is no exception to the rule.

What is so striking about this wine is the power of the fruit. On the taste buds, the spicy stewed cherries are obvious at first but gather momentum as they roll downhill like a snowball and dominate through the (ever so slightly bitter) finish. It’s only ruby red in the glass, medium weight on the palate, but gee it packs one hell of a punch. Good Pinot isn’t cheap, but this one is really good value.
