Baileys of Glenrowan , Organic Shiraz 2012 Review

I’m the first to admit that I was probably a little judgmental, but I’d always thought that any creator of Certified Organic and preservative free wines would have dreadlocked hair, red beaded necklaces and have a proclivity to wear ripped T-shirts with five-leafed clover emblazoned across the front, and tie themselves to trees as the bulldozers approached. But after trying the Baileys of Glenrowan 2012 Organic Shiraz, I think I might join them!

The first vintage of Baileys of Glenrowan’s wines that has been certified as organic is the 2012 edition which winemaker Paul Dahlenburg has created with a medium body but in a peppery cool climate style. The nose reminds me of the purple fruit jubes I used to love as a kid, while on the palate, the juicy mulberry and cranberry flavours take control and drive a lingering finish that displays a vanillan spicy edge at the back. Delicious! Best of all is the price point – you’ll get enough change out of $30 to fuel up the Kombi! It’s a style that’s easy to drink but won’t overpower even the most delicate of meat or pasta dishes.
